BPA, Plastic and Your Health
There’s a new study that has been recently published that links Bisphenol A (a.k.a BPA) to heart disease and diabetes. You can read a great article about it on Scientific American’s Website.
About a year ago, my Fiance and I completely ditched all of our plastic in the kitchen. The biggest offenders were plastic Tupperware and drinking bottles (coffee and water). What we’ve done is shifted to all glass containers for food storage and aluminum for portable drinking containers. Although the FDA maintains that all food containers with BPA are safe, we’re not taking any chances. Call me skeptical, but I’ll listen to independent research over a money making governmental body 9 times out of 10.
What can you do to reduce your risk of BPA exposure? I suggest going with some products like Sigg Bottles. They are fantastic for on-the-go water. They’re all aluminum, keep your water cool and add a little flare, if that’s your thing. Another great product for food storage are Snap Lock glass containers. They come in all shapes and sizes, the lids are air tight and they are safe to use in the microwave.
